Hello and welcome!

In February of 2015, Julie (EOPR's President and Founder) adopted Eli, who is a potcake from Grand Turk in the Turks & Caicos Islands. After falling madly in love with Eli, she of course fell in love with potcakes as a whole! While she was photographing a wedding in November of 2015, she rescued a very sweet, but very sick little potcake pup off the beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica and named her Marley. Being a lifelong animal lover, and  seeing first hand the life these dogs live and the treatment that they endure, she knew she needed to do more for islands dogs. She began Eastern Ontario Potcake Rescue two months later and on January 22nd, 2016 our first group of rescue puppies arrived into foster care from Jamaica... and the rest is history! Since beginning operations in 2016, we have successfully rescued and rehomed over 800 dogs in the Ottawa area. We unfortunately had to say goodbye to our incredibly beloved Eli in August 2021, but his memory and legacy will forever live on in each and every one of our EOPR alumni. He made a huge mark, and will always be the heart and soul of EOPR.

EOPR is committed to rescuing, and finding safe, suitable and loving forever homes for island dogs (potcakes) from various islands in the Caribbean. We assist our rescue partners overseas with rescue and spay/neuter efforts: both monetarily and on the group, helping in any way we can to solve the dog overpopulation problems at the root cause. In 2020, we widened our mandate to helping local shelter dogs on last chance euthanasia lists.    

We are a small, but mighty, volunteer-run registered Canadian Charitable Organization. We have an amazing team of animal lovers behind us and we appreciate everything they do...a huge thanks to our amazing team! We could not do what we do without so many dedicated volunteers. We are completely foster based, meaning our dogs all live in foster homes until adoption and never go into a shelter facility. 

We are an OTTAWA, ON based rescue. Our adoption range includes the Ottawa area, and the Eastern Ontario region (see below).

*Please note that adoptions are limited to the Eastern Ontario Region except on special, individual cases. We work with rescue partners across Ontario and on the Islands to facilitate adoptions outside our geographic on a case-by-case basis.*
